Geostigma aka Seikon-Shoukougun aka Star Scar Syndrome
Geostigma is not in the game. It's something that appears in the movie, so
little is known about it. It has been confirmed to be a disease, though, and is
somehow connected to the SHM. It
mostly affects children, but also adults. It's a painful disease, and has led to
death in some cases.
Confirmed info:Geostigma is the result of something
Lifestream-ish fighting off something evil inside their bodies. Jenova cells.
Holy
Contained in the White Materia and is just as powerful as Meteor (Black
Materia). The reason Cloud and the others wanted to summon Holy was because
Sephiroth had summoned Meteor. Meteor would crash on the Planet, causing a huge
wound. A great amount of Lifestream would be sent to the wound by the Planet in
a try to heal itself. Sephiroth would wait in the middle of the wound, and then
merge with the Lifestream to become one with the Planet. That would make him and
Jenova (who he believed was his mother) the rulers of the world.
Jenova
The game never explains what or who Jenova really was/is. What we do know is
that she was found in a 2000 year old geological stratum. Professor Gast named
the organism "Jenova", and confirmed she was an Ancient (which she really wasn't.
She was only disguised as one to gain the trust of the Ancients).
The most common belief is that Jenova is an alien who crashed on the Planet.
She spread a virus amongst the Cetra, who were almost completely wiped out. The
ones who survived were the ancestors of humanity.
The Jenova Project
The Shinra wanted to find the Promised Land, because they believed it was
full of Mako energy. In order to find the Promised Land they needed the help of
the Cetra, who were the only one who knew how and where the Promised Land could be
found. When they found Jenova, they thought she was an Ancient, and the project
started. By injecting Jenova cells into test subjects, the Shinra wanted to recreate the Cetra so that they could lead them to
the Promised Land.
Lifestream
When someone dies, their body returns to the Planet. Their spirits merge
with each other, and roam the Planet. This is called the Lifestream. Spirit
energy is another word for it. If the Spirit energy disappears, the Planet will
die. That's the big problem with the Mako reactors. They are sucking out the
very life of the Planet.
Mako
The life blood of the Planet.
Materia
Condensed Mako energy. The knowledge and wisdom of the Ancients is held in
the Materia, and anyone with this knowledge can use the powers of the Land and
the Planet. In other words: Magic.
Reunion
One of Hojo's experiments. He thought that if Jenova's cells were scattered,
they could become one again if Jenova called for them. He injected test subjects
with Jenova cells to see if his theory could work, but most of the subjects were
too weak to handle the cells. The figures in black cloaks are those test
subjects. They can't speak very well, and many of them die on their way to the
Reunion (because Seph killed them, I've heard, but I don't know for sure). Actually, Cloud is the only one who makes it to the Reunion, and he was
in fact called "a failure" by Hojo, who didn't even give him a tattoo (which the
black-cloaked dudes have).
Sephiroth
The son of Lucrecia and Hojo. When Lucrecia was pregnant, Hojo wanted to
inject her with Jenova cells, so that she would give birth to a child with the
powers of the Cetra. She agreed, but disappeared after giving birth to
Sephiroth, and Sephiroth grew up believing his mother was Jenova. Although, when
he finds out about the Jenova Project, he believes he was created that way too.
He also finds out about the Cetra, and believing he is one of them he also
believes he is the rightful heir of the Planet. He goes crazy in Nibelheim, and
kills almost everyone there. Cloud however, manages to push him into the Mako
pit. Sephiroth was then reported dead, but he really wasn't. He was carried by
the Lifestream and ended up in the Northern Crater. From there, he controlled
his clones to search for the Promised Land.
SOLDIER
Shinra's army. The soldiers are showered with Mako energy to become
stronger.
Star Scar Syndrome
See "Geostigma".
The Ancients aka the Cetra
The Ancients were born from the Planet, and had the power to speak with it.
The Planet originally belonged to them, but many of them died when Jenova
arrived. Those who survived were the ones who escaped, and they are the
ancestors of humanity.
The Promised Land
Shinra searches for the Promised Land, not aware of the fact that it doesn't
exist for them as it did for the Cetra. The Promised Land is actually a resting
place for the Cetra. Since the life of a Cetra is one continuous journey, it
meant supreme happiness for them to rest after that harsh journey.
Weapon
Monsters created by the Planet in order to protect it when it's in danger.
In the game, Weapon appears when Meteor has been summoned.
